Clarence Atwood Jr. will receive the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (LSTC) 2020 Distinguished Service Award November 11 at 4 p.m. during the fall Board of Directors meeting held via Zoom.
Kristi Ferguson, chairperson of the Board of Directors, said, “Clarence is one of the first board members I met when I joined the board eight years ago. His tireless work in shepherding the financial aspects of LSTC is well-known. His patience in explaining the intricacies of non-profit finances meant a great deal to those of us less familiar with such matters. Congratulations, Clarence, for this well-deserved award, and thank you for your exemplary service to the mission and ministry of the seminary.”
Atwood served on LSTC’s Board of Directors from 2010-2019 as a member of the Administration and Finance Committee. He chaired the committee for the last six years of his tenure on the board. He was also a member of the Presidential Search Committee, 2011-2012. He served as the secretary of the board 2013-2014. Atwood was appointed to the LSTC Foundation Board of Trustees in fall 2019. He continues to serve on the Audit Committee of the board.
Atwood recently retired from the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was the director of internal audit. He has served as interim director of finance and compliance for South Suburban PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter). He is an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Tinley Park, Ill., where he is financial secretary. He has also served on Zion’s Stewardship Committee and Endowment Committee.
The Distinguished Service Award is conferred by the LSTC Board of Directors on an individual or couple for exemplary service to the mission and ministry of the seminary.
