Who We Are
For many years LSTC has utilized Chicago's many cultures and various faiths to teach students how to witness to God's love in Jesus Christ while striving to understand and respect the faiths of Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists and neighbors of other faith traditions. The seminary has long been teaching courses on Jewish contributions to Christian thought, and since 1991 has offered courses on Islam and Christian-Muslim relations, beginning with team-taught courses by Dr. Harold S. Vogelaar and Dr. Ghulam Haider-Aasi. The Center is presently working toward goals identified in 2018-2019 during its re-envisioning process.
A Center of Christian Muslim Engagement (CCME) was founded in 2006, along with the Chair in Christian-Muslim Studies and Interfaith Relations. Learn more about its inauguration event.
A Center of Christian-Muslim Engagement for Peace and Justice (CCME) at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (LSTC) fosters and deepens relations between Christians and Muslims as a significant part of its larger purpose of building bridges of mutual understanding, respect and cooperation among people of all faiths.
CCME was founded on the conviction that Christians, Muslims, and neighbors of other faith traditions, in their co-humanity, created by and responsible before God, are called to know, respect and learn from one another, despite or even because of our differences.
