The Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago is accredited by the Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada (ATS) and the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The following degree programs are approved: Master of Divinity, Master of Arts in Ministry, Master of Arts, Doctor of Ministry, Master of Theology, and Doctor of Philosophy. In addition, the following extension site is accredited: Sigtuna, Sweden (D.Min.).
Both ATS and the HLC completed comprehensive accreditation evaluations of LSTC in March 2017. LSTC was reaccredited by ATS. The next ATS comprehensive evaluation is scheduled for 2023.
The Higher Learning Commission reaffirmed LSTC’s accreditation and placed LSTC on Probation in January 2018. The HLC took this action because it determined that LSTC does not meet the HLC’s Criteria for Accreditation related to financial resources and maintaining and strengthening quality programs. By March 1, 2019, LSTC will provide evidence to the HLC that it has addressed the issues of concern. The HLC will conduct another comprehensive evaluation no later than May 2019. More information about the sanction may be found on the HLC website or by clicking the button below.
LSTC also operates in compliance with the Illinois Board of Higher Education. Register an institutional complaint with the Illinois Board of Higher Education here.
