Dr. Larry Rasmussen will speak at LSTC's 147th Commencement January 30, 2007

Ethicist, teacher, and writer Dr. Larry Rasmussen will be the speaker at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago's 147th commencement ceremony Sunday, May 20, 2007 at Rockefeller Chapel. Dr. Rasmussen served as Reinhold Niebuhr Professor of Social Ethics at Union Theological Seminary, New York City, from 1986-2004.

His current work focuses on moral and theological reorientation in response to humans' unsustainable uses of natural resources. He recently served as St. John's Visiting Professor at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia.

Rasmussen's books include Earth Community, Earth Ethics, winner of the 1997 Grawemeyer Award in Religion. Dr. Rasmussen graduated from St. Olaf College, earned a B.D. from Luther Theological Seminary, studied theology at the Freie University in Berlin, Germany, and completed his Ph.D. in social ethics at the Union Theological Seminary in New York City.

Beginning with its spring 2007 session, Dr. Rasmussen will serve on LSTC's board of directors.
