Clyde Andrew Walter receives ALDE Jay Bleeke Young Professionals Award March 14, 2018

On Friday, March 2, Clyde Andrew Walter, campaign director and major gift officer at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (LSTC) received the Jay Bleeke Young Professionals Award presented by the Association of Lutheran Development Executives (ALDE). The awards ceremony took place during ALDE’s annual conference in Minneapolis, Minn.

The Jay Bleeke Young Professionals Award is given to a member of ALDE who is under 40, shows exemplary participation in the organization at the local or national level, and is an inspiration to others regarding greater commitment and involvement. The award winner must also demonstrate exemplary leadership and service to an organization in the fields of fundraising and/or public relations. The awardee receives a $500 grant for continued professional development.

In presenting the award, ALDE President Jason Gerdes said, “In a few short years [Clyde] has earned the respect and admiration of peers and mentors. He inspires others to compassion and generosity by combining heart, mind and soul to engage the entirety of each person in a common vision.”

Walter has served in a number of leadership roles with ALDE: chapter president, chapter membership coordinator, on the Hospitality Committee and on the Curriculum Committee for the annual IGNITE Conference. He has been recognized with a Chapter Leader Award and led his chapter to receive Chapter of the Year.
“I am overwhelmed with emotion at receiving this award,” Walter said. “It is made possible only because of the many people who have made a difference in my life and because of ALDE. So many people have taken a risk on me and showed me the way. I’m immensely grateful to all those who have poured into me. I hope that I can do the same for others.”
Walter has also served as volunteer development chair for Extraordinary Ministries and on the Young Alumni Advisory Board for Augustana College – Rock Island. In congregations, he has served on the church council, capital campaign team, stewardship committee and also sings in the choir.

Walter joined LSTC’s Advancement Office in January 2015 as campaign director and major gift officer. He is leading the seminary in the preparation and execution of a comprehensive fundraising campaign.  He has worked for the Office of the Secretary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), for Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill., and as the director of stewardship and advancement at Grace Lutheran Church and School in River Forest, Ill. Walter holds a master’s degree from the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration and a bachelor’s degree from Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill.

Walter is married to Pastor Kyle Severson, a 2015 graduate of LSTC.
