LSTC's 2010 Youth in Mission programs will energize, inspire youth November 17, 2009

"I am changed…I am empowered, inspired, energized, and loved," is how Grace Bodey describes her experience with Serving Christ in the World, one of Youth in Mission's (YIM) programs at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago.

The three-week exploration of vocation is designed for current high school sophomores and juniors who want to learn about God, themselves, and ways they can use their gifts in service to others. Youth spend two weeks in Chicago, including a three-day immigrant community immersion, and one week in Mexico.  YIM's next Serving Christ in the World program will be held June 13 - July 3, 2010. The application deadline is February 17, 2010. To learn more about the program, visit

YIM's Beyond Belief program connects high school youth groups with the seminary and Chicago service organizations for various ministry opportunities during week-long service trips. Youth leaders and pastors may mold the program to fit their group's spiritual and scheduling needs. LSTC provides low-cost housing in its Youth Center, service project contacts, and two meals where participants will have an opportunity to discuss vocation and life at LSTC with seminarians.

One participant said, "My experience with the Beyond Belief program is that God shows himself in unusual ways and that everything is a gift. Plus, every day God is helping me figure out my vocation. It is just amazing!!" Space is limited, so registration forms must be received at least two months prior to the requested program dates. Youth groups may come any time of year, but summer is especially popular. Youth groups are encouraged to register early to reserve a week during the summer of 2010.

More information, including applications and registration forms, is available on Youth in Mission's website at: You may also call the Youth in Mission office at 800-635-1116, ext. 725, or send an email to for more information.

Youth in Mission was originally funded by a generous grant from the Lilly Endowment, Inc., for the purpose of encouraging young people to explore their gifts for ministry and to consider a profession of serving others through the church. Lilly continues to fund the YIM programs through a matching grant. You or your congregation can be partners in this ministry through your gifts to YIM.  To invest in the future of YIM programs, please contact Jessica Nipp at
