Student Profile: Chris Honig, M.Div.

Degree: M.Div., intern

I chose LSTC for a number of reasons. I was seeking a seminary that had a strong reputation for academics and liturgical renewal without sacrificing dedication to Lutheran identity and heritage.  I was also seeking a seminary that had many opportunities for different emphases and a context that would provide a unique journey into ministry.

Upon arriving and spending two years at LSTC, I have been pleased with my experience. There are endless things to do and opportunities for ministry in an urban context like Chicago. With many other seminaries and universities in the area, LSTC encourages efforts in ecumenical and interfaith dialogue.

I have found that while maintaining a strong academic reputation, the professors are all easily approachable. Worship life is central to the campus community with a wealth of liturgical resources and opportunities to be involved in the chapel.

Most importantly, LSTC has been a place that has cultivated my journey of discernment. While initially applying only with the notion that LSTC felt like the right next step for me, my vision for ministry has slowly evolved. My call to ministry has become more clearly defined due in large part to the continued support and affirmation I have encountered at LSTC. I have received affirmation from professors, students, staff, and from a variety of opportunities for practical experiences in ministry. LSTC has become an integral part in my journey and formation as an emerging candidate for ministry.
