About the speaker

Philip L. Hougen was named acting president of LSTC by its Board of Directors in May 2011. Prior to his appointment, he had served as chairperson of LSTC’s Board of Directors from October 2009 - May 2011. In 2008, Hougen retired as bishop of the Southeastern Iowa Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America after serving two six-year terms.

He has served as pastor in four congregations, Faith Lutheran Church, Glen Ellyn, Ill., (1969-1971); Our Savior Lutheran Church, Pekin, Ill., (1971-1977); St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, (1977-1988); and Grace Lutheran Church, Des Moines, Iowa, (1988-1996). After his retirement, he has served as senior interim pastor of Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls, Iowa, for a year and as acting president at LSTC from July-December 2010.
