This year’s Hein-Fry Lecture affirms that the Bible is not an exclusive word and that American Lutherans have much to learn from the ways Christians around the world experience and interpret the Bible.

About the Speakers

Dr. Dora E. Arce-Valentín is a native of Cuba and the child of a Presbyterian pastor. She is a member of the advisory team of the Faith, Economy and Society Program of the Latin American Council of Churches and part of the task force in dialogue with the Council of European Churches.

José David Rodríguez is the Augustana Heritage Chair of Global Mission and World Christianity at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (LSTC). Ordained in 1975, Rodriguez served congregations in Puerto Rico and Chicago. He held visiting appointments at the Seminario Evangelico de Puerto Rico and the Comunidad Teologica de Mexico, and was an adjunct faculty member at Elmhurst College, Elmhurst, Ill., and Northern Baptist Theological Seminary, Lombard, Ill., before joining the Lutheran School of Theology faculty in 1985.
