Chicago-area Service of Celebration for Bishop-elect D. Jensen Seyenkulo on June 9
~~from the Metropolitan Chicago Synod May 24, 2012 Metro e-Word:
As you may have heard, D. Jensen Seyenkulo was elected Bishop of the Lutheran Church in Liberia on Saturday, April 28. Pastor Jensen, as he is called, was elected on the first ballot in the bishop’s election with two other candidates. He received 59.62% of the vote.
He will be consecrated as Bishop of the Lutheran Church in Liberia on Sunday, July 1, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa. You are invited to attend the consecration. If you are planning to do so, please contact the Seyenkulos for advice on where to stay, et cetera.
Since most people from the Chicago area will not be able to attend the Consecration, and since this has been home of Bishop-elect Seyenkulo for the past 20 plus years, we would like to invite you to a celebration of his election and his ministry in the Metropolitan Chicago Synod for the past 20 years.
There will be a service of celebration on Saturday, June 9, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Park Forest, Ill., the congregation where he is a member. The congregation is located at 2901 Western Ave, Park Forest, IL 60466. It is 1½ miles south of Lincoln Highway on Western Ave. The church phone number is 708-747-8388. If you are coming from out of town and are looking for lodging, please contact the Seyenkulos for more information.
This celebration is co-sponsored by the African American Strategy Team of the Metropolitan Chicago Synod and Trinity Lutheran Church, Park Forest.
Download a flyer about the events, and/or download a bulletin insert.
We hope you are able to join us on June 9 and to invite members of your congregation to be a part of this celebration.
Yours in Christ,
