Non-Degree Options

There are several reasons that students seek to be students at LSTC without pursuing a degree. They include and are not limited to:

Special Students

Students taking one course at a time to explore theological education. If these courses are taken for credit, up to four courses may transfer into a future degree. There is a simplified application process for Special students. Download Application.

Affiliate Transfer Students

Students taking courses at another seminary or divinity school and planning to transfer courses to receive LSTC's degree.

Lutheran Year Students

Students who have received a degree at a divinity school or ecumenical seminary who are meeting the requirement of the ELCA Candidacy process to spend a year in residence at a Lutheran seminary. The purpose of this requirement is to experience theological education in a Lutheran setting, network and build relationships with faculty and peers and enter fully into the worship life of the seminary community. TEEM (Theological Education for Emerging Ministry in the ELCA) Students

Students who have been lifted up by their Synod as those who will do ministry while taking courses in preparation for ordination. Read more at the ELCA website.

ELCA Candidacy Students

For those ordained in another church body or who through other extraordinary circumstances are being required to take courses, following a Theological Review Panel, in preparation for ordination in the ELCA.
