Advanced Studies Admissions Process
The deadline for Th.M. and Ph.D. applications is January 15 to be considered for admission and financial aid the following fall term. Decisions on admittance are made by the end of March and on financial aid by the end of April.
a) For National Students/ U.S.A., we require:
Application form complete with picture
GRE Examination
scores
Four (4) letters
of recommendation (we will write to the persons you list on the application
form)
College, M.A.
and/or M.Div. transcript
b) For International Students we require:
Application
form complete with picture
TOEFL (Test
of English for Foreign Language) Examination scores
A description
of your present employment, your education up to this point, a brief statement
on why you wish to undertake further studies.
A statement
of your relationship to a church body and/or an educational institution.
A statement
from an educational institution in your home country on whether a teaching
position has been offered to you upon completion of your studies (if this
applies to you).
A statement
of your financial status, including a specific outline of how you expect
to support yourself (and your family) during the period of study in Chicago
(for the Th.M., 2 years; for the Ph.D., four to five years). If a particular
agency is undertaking your support, please submit an official statement
to that effect.
For international Lutheran students, our seminary works together with
the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), Division for Global
Mission. For those international applicants who are Lutheran and who seek
funding from the Lutheran Church, a standard form can be obtained from
the national church office in their home country. For further information
