DEACONESS COMMUNITY

A Deaconess is consecrated for service in the context of the church’s mission to proclaim the Gospel in a variety of ministry settings that include parish work, church music, discernment of gifts and call to all of God’s people, social work, and administration. The Deaconess Community of the ELCA has its roots in 19th century Germany. It is a place in which women may grow not only in ministry skills but also provides for spiritual and personal growth and support.

Please contact the Deaconess Community, or see the ELCA Candidacy Manual (Deaconess Section) for more information about this program.
