Life @ LSTC : Health & Wellness

One convenient resource for physical fitness is the athletic complex at the University of Chicago. Through an agreement with the university, members of the seminary community have access to the university's athletic complex located across the street from LSTC's campus. For a reasonable annual fee, community members can use the swimming pool, weight room, racquetball courts, step and rowing machines, stationary bikes, and an indoor track. The Office of Community Life processes memberships to the facility.

Students regularly organize basketball, volleyball, and soccer games in the gymnasium of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, just east of LSTC. One of the year's most popular events is the Students vs. Faculty/Staff basketball game to win the coveted "Presidential Shoe" award.

In addition to planned activities, many members of the community walk, run, or bicycle to keep fit. Paved paths along Lake Michigan make it possible to walk, jog, job and bicycle the five miles to downtown Chicago.

Roeder's approach is holistic and will include spiritual art workshops and cooking classes. Roeder offers body and prayer stretch/core strengthening and "ecumenical plyometrics" classes for anyone from the 12 Chicago-area seminaries.
