International Students

Graduates and friends, 2008.The Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago has a long history of theological education for leaders throughout the global church. International students make up 14% of our student body and half of our Th.M./Ph.D. students. Students come from diverse regions including Algeria, Argentina, Brazil, Burma/Myanmar, Denmark, Ecuador, Germany, Guyana, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Nicaragua, Niger, Nigeria, Palestine, Peru, South Korea, Sweden, Tanzania, Turkey, Thailand and Uruguay. Throughout the academic year, international students lead the community in global celebrations and honoring of the global church through worship, festivals, vigils and feasts.

Our faculty includes: Dr. Klaus-Peter Adam (born in Germany); Dr. Kurt Hendel (born in Germany); Dr. José David Rodriguez (born in Puerto Rico); Dr. Peter Vethanayagamony (born in India); Dr. Vítor Westhelle (born in Brazil). In addition, several scholars have spent considerable time in study and/or ministry throughout the global church: Dr. Michael Shelley (England and Egypt); Dr. Mark Swanson (Rome and Egypt); Dr. Rosanne Swanson (Cairo, Egypt); Dr. Linda Thomas (South Africa). International students experience welcome and tremendous support from the entire LSTC faculty.

Leading Worship. In addition to their application, autobiography, references, transcripts and application fee, International students must submit a TOEFL score and evidence of funding for their program and living expenses.

Once international students are accepted and offered admission, they should contact Kisha Allen, Assistant to the Dean of Community. International students must fill out a resource form (documentation that gives evidence the student is able to pay for a full year of tuition and living expenses at LSTC). International students must let Kisha Allen know if they are applying for an F-1 or a J-1 visa. If international students have any questions about immigration and visa status throughout this process, please contact Kisha Allen.
