CandidacyCandidacy is the name for the process in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) that goes side-by-side with the seminary process in forming leaders. It is possible to pursue a degree at LSTC without the Candidacy process, but students hoping to be pastors or leaders in the ELCA must enter the Candidacy process approximately one year prior to beginning seminary studies. Don't know a thing about Candidacy? Find out more. There are several components to the Candidacy process—candidates contact their Synod, fill out an application, write an essay, have a psychological assessment (and a follow up appointment to interpret the results), background check, individual interview with one member of the Candidacy committee and finally meet with the whole committee who hopefully make a decision called "Entrance." This is their blessing on behalf of the whole church that they believe you should enter this process toward church leadership. You are welcome to use your Candidacy essay as the autobiography that LSTC requires as part of your application for admission. If you have questions about the Candidacy process and how it relates to your admission at LSTC, please contact us. Rev. Paul Landahl is the Coordinator of Candidacy at LSTC. Candidacy committees and current students appreciate his work as a liaison between Synods and candidates to make this process as smooth as possible for everyone. |
