Vocalist and musician Rachel Kurtz will perform in concert Sunday, June 15 at 7:00 p.m. in the Augustana Chapel at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. LSTC's Youth in Mission Program for high school youth is sponsoring the public concert. The concert is free and open to the public. Groups may call 773-256-0725 to reserve seats. [more]

Pastor Terrence "Terry" Baeder will serve as the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago's Interim Dean of the Community for two years, beginning July 1, 2008. He succeeds the Rev. Linda Johnson Seyenkulo, who has served as LSTC's Dean of the Community since 2003. [more]

Youth in Mission ministry at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago invites both youth ministry workers and clergy to its first annual YIM Conference for Youth Ministry Workers April 20-22, 2009. The topic, "Pastoral Care for Youth," was identified by a survey of youth ministry workers as a topic which they thought needed more coverage in the youth ministry field. [more]

The Rev. Dr. Monica A. Coleman, assistant professor of systematic theology, was awarded a $7,000 Summer Research Fellowship by the Wabash Center for her proposal "Faith Responses to Depressive Conditions among Black Women." [more]

The Executive Committee of the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago Board of Directors, on the recommendation of the faculty, elected the Rev. Dr. Peter Vethanayagamony to be assistant professor of church history at the seminary, effective July 1, 2008. [more]

The Lutheran School of Theology is offering a special interfaith program on the environment on Tuesday, April 22, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. in LSTC Room 350. Two speakers, one representing Islam and the other representing Judaism, will share their traditions' approach to caring for creation. These talks will be followed by a panel discussion and conversation with the audience.The evening will conclude with a reception. [more]

The Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago Board of Directors has elected the Rev. Benjamin Stewart to be assistant professor of worship at the seminary. He is scheduled to begin teaching in the spring semester 2009 after completing his Ph.D. degree at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology. [more]

The Hyde Park Religion and Science Society, the student society of the Zygon Center for Religion and Science, was awarded a $45,000 Metanexus Global Network Initiative Continuation Program gift from the Metanexus Institute in March 2008. The award supports a series of five student scholarship symposia to be organized by the Zygon Center and the Hyde Park Society and hosted by the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. At the symposia students from throughout the region will present and discuss their original research papers in religion and science. The first symposium, scheduled for spring 2009, will address the topic of science and spirituality. [more]

During February and March, a special team of seminary students led by Paul Knutson are helping residents switch from incandescent to compact fluorescent light bulbs in permanent lighting fixtures in Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago apartments. This is part of LSTC's Green Zone initiative to make the seminary a "geographical area in which lifestyle and activities promote a healthy environment and where the people are committed to the healing of creation." The Floy L. and Paul F. Cornelsen Family Foundation has pledged $400,000 to create an endowed program fund at LSTC to fund guest lecturers, faculty research, and teaching assistants. An additional gift of up to $25,000 a year over four years, will match any new gifts given to the seminary by its employees. [more]
