Our 2008-2009 Chapel Music Series

An enchannting series inspired by a space that acoustically and visually welcomes music of all kinds— sacred, secular, classical, contemporary, ethnic and the unusual.

With the theme “All that Has Life and Breath: Singing
with Creation,” Daniel Schwandt, cantor to the seminary
community, leads a hymn festival with the LSTC
Cantorei celebrating the wonder of creation.

Bach Cantatas for Garden and Church

Freewill Offering

Soloists, choir, and orchestra present Bach’s Cantata
36c, written as a birthday tribute to a “dear professor,”
and Cantata 51, a tour de force for soprano, strings,
and trumpet. Mark Bangert conducts, as we celebrate
LSTC’s new Wahl continuo organ.

Music from North India
Augustana Chapel
Freewill Offering

Lyon Leifer, playing a keyless bamboo Indian flute,
joins Hassan Hashim on tabla for a program of
(Bansuri) North Indian music. The musicians will
offer assistance in listening to this attractive,
improvised repertory of music.

Advent Lessons and Carols

Daniel Schwandt, cantor to the seminary
community, and Craig A. Satterlee, interim dean
of the chapel, lead worshipers as we welcome
Advent with songs of the season. The LSTC Cantorei and instrumentalists present Hugo Distler’s “A Little Advent Music.”

As a belated valentine, Andrea Holliday and Thomas
Wikman offer a program of delightful love songs
written by late Romantic composers.

La Paloma in concert

In their second CMS performance, this acclaimed string
ensemble consisting of CSO musicians and friends
present a program that includes Arnold Schoenberg’s
Verklärte Nacht, Op. 4, scored for string sextet.

This is “Gospel” at its best with noted director and
composer, Keith Hampton leading the energetic
LSTC Gospel Choir together with friends. Come to
hear a group beloved by many in the Midwest and
in Africa. And it’s for a good cause!
