Pastor Jonathan Schmidt,
1986, M.Div.

“You don’t know me, but I have thought of you often over the past 20+ years. In 1986 I graduated from LSTC, and began my ministry in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Now in my third call, I serve a congregation of 900 and, among other things, I am secretary of the Northern Great Lakes Synod, site coordinator for the synod’s Lay School for Mission, and a member of the synod’s Transformational Ministry Team.

“All this is important to share with you because you made it happen. During my seminary years I was told that my scholarship support came specifically from Holy Trinity. I didn’t know you—you didn’t know me—yet, you supported me in my learning, discernment, and preparation for ministry.

“What a wonderful gift you were—and continue to be as my ministry moves forward. In worship and preaching, pastoral care and pastoral acts, teaching and outreach, you are a part of my ministry. You are there with me—my ministry is an extension of your ministry many years ago.”

--From a thank you letter written to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Glenview, Ill.
