Field Education and Candidacy OfficeWelcome to the information page for the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago’s office of Field Education and Candidacy. The Rev. Dr. Connie Kleingartner is the Director and Associate in Ministry Marji Shannon is the Assistant Director. Participation in the components of Field Education is required for all Masters of Divinity candidates, Diaconal Ministers and Associates in Ministry. The three field programs that comprise the core of the Field Education Program of LSTC are Clinical Pastoral Education, Internship and Ministry in Context (learning framework done in a local parish.) The way these programs are coordinated in the journey toward being rostered in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America reflects the unique and active partnership that exists between the ELCA’s Division for Ministry, synod candidacy committees and seminaries. For those Master of Divinity candidates, Diaconal Ministers and Associates in Ministry who desire to be rostered leaders in the ELCA, participation in the components of Candidacy is also required. The Office of Candidacy will work with and guide students through the steps of Entrance, Endorsement, Approval and on into First Call Assignment.
