CURRENT STUDENTS

Pastor to the CommunityTerry Baeder.

As you know, my position as Dean of Community was modified this year to Dean of Students and Director of the MDiv and MA programs.

The original “plan” was to transition of the “Pastor to the Community” function from my office to the Director of Spiritual Formation/Pastor to the Community.

Since the search for that position has been delayed, I will continue to serve as the Pastor to the Community for this year. Thus we have developed a “Pastoral Team” to assist in providing pastoral care for the community.

I am aware of the fact that LSTC is FILLED with many pastors (some of whom are ordained), who provide pastoral care and ministry to the community in many and various ways. The Pastoral Team concept is not designed to supplant those ministries, but hopefully to support and build on them. We are blessed with having a diversity of individuals with a vast array of gifts and experiences. My hope is that this opportunity will help us take the role of Pastor to the Community to a new level.

The “Pastoral Team” for this year will include

  1. The Rev. Cheryl Stewart Pero, a PhD Student and pastor with many years of pastoral experience. Pr. Pero will serve as the lead pastor for our team.
  2. Pastor Chakravarthy Zadda is the coordinator of the International Students Affairs Office and will expand his services to serve as pastor to the international students.
  3. Seminarian Lois Ryan (MDiv, Senior) will serve as the Coordinator of the Student Pastoral Team. She will assist with communications within the Pastoral Team, provide direction and coordination for the team, and assist with the training and support of the student Chaplains.
  4. In addition we have appointed a team of students who will serve as “chaplains” to each of four “Neighborhood” in the LSTC Community and to our commuters:

    a. David Webb (MA 2nd Year) – The Neighborhood behind McCormick

    b. Julie Boleyn (MDiv, Senior) – University Ave. & E. 54th Place Neighborhood

    c. Rick Hogan (MDiv, Special) – South Woodlawn & E. 54th Place Neighborhood

    d. Angela Nelson (MDiv, Middler+) -- University Ave. & E.54th St. Neighborhood.

I am really excited about developing a team approach to pastoral ministry here at LSTC …and the opportunity to utilize the gifts and skills of some of our students. We will be sharing more about this as the process unfolds.

Peace,

Terry
