Barbara Rossing, Associate Professor of New Testament at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, will appear in the History Channel program, "Countdown to Armageddon," scheduled to air on December 26. The program "looks at the development of the Book of Revelation and the history of apocalyptic prophesy in an attempt to get a perspective on current claims by many Christians that the end of time is near," said the program's producer, David DeVries.
Rossing is the author of The Rapture Exposed: The Message of Hope in the Book of Revelation, which has received national attention as a response to the popular "Left Behind" series of books. The Rapture Exposed examines the texts of Revelation and the gospels in a way that shows no one will be "left behind."
Rossing is a well-known speaker and lecturer throughout the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America on a range of topics: New Testament, ecology, archeology, peace and justice, Revelation and sexuality. She serves on the executive committee of the Lutheran World Federation and the board of Augsburg Fortress Publishers. Rossing holds degrees from Carleton College, Northfield, Minn.; Yale University Divinity School and Harvard University.
