New staff to support online learning

Scott Chalmers and Jeff Fitzkappes have joined the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago to support faculty, students and staff with the design and use of technology for teaching and learning with particular focus on online courses.
Dr. Chalmers will work approximately 20 hours a week as Teaching and Learning Technologist for the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. Chalmers holds a Ph.D. in biblical studies from LSTC and has designed and taught online courses for LSTC, Trinity Lutheran Seminary and Lewis University.
Mr. Fitzkappes, a Ph.D. student at LSTC, will serve as Assistant Teaching and Learning Technologist 10 hours per week. Fitzkappes earned a master of arts degree in Christian Thought through a distributive learning program from Bethel Seminary, St. Paul, Minn., which included both intensive on-campus and online courses.
The two part-time positions are funded by a grant from the Floy L. and Paul F. Cornelsen Charitable Foundation.
Online courses for 2010-2011
LSTC will offer seven online courses during the 2010-2011 academic year. The courses are designed to be both accessible to individuals interested in exploring seminary education or theological topics and academically challenging. They are full-credit courses that are part of the accredited degree programs of the seminary.
Fall semester courses:
Biblical Greek taught by the Rev. Dr. Peter S. Perry
Pentateuch and Wisdom Literature taught by Dr. Scott Chalmers
Church History I taught by the Rev. Dr. Kurt Hendel
Spring semester courses:
Church History II taught by the Rev. Dr. Peter Vethanayagamony
Life and Letter of Paul taught by the Rev. Dr. Ray Pickett
Israel’s Prophets taught by the Rev. Dr. Klaus-Peter Adam
Lutheran Confessional Heritage taught by Dr. Lea F. Schweitz
