LSTC News Release
New schedule, reduced registration fee for February 2010 Leadership Conference
Posted Jan 20, 2010
"Inch by Inch: Growing a Green Congregation," the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago’s annual Leadership Conference, will be held one day only, Tuesday, February 9, 2010. The new registration fee is just $85, with a reduced rate of $52.50 for retirees and recent LSTC graduates.
Part of LSTC’s Earth Year observance, the Leadership Conference is designed to give church leaders practical and concrete ways individuals and congregations can care for creation. Participants will learn how environmental issues are tied to social and ethical issues, how to increase awareness of environmental concerns facing our world, and ways worship can increase our appreciation of the sacredness of creation and deepen our desire to treat it with dignity and respect.
The Rev. Dr. David Rhoads, professor of New Testament at LSTC and a leader in environmental ministry, is the keynote speaker for the event. Four workshops will be held:
- "Greening Your Congregation" led by Pastor Steve Jerbi
- "Earthbound: Created and Called to Care for Creation" led by the Rev. Richard Bruesehoff
- "How to Talk with Lutheran Congregations without Sounding like a Pagan: Joseph Sittler on Ecology and Theological Language" led by LSTC Ph.D. candidate Robert Saler
- "The Church on Earth: Worship and Ecology" led by the Rev. Dr. Ben Stewart
LSTC alum Pastor Sarah Olson-Smith will preach during worship.
