The Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago has named Mr. George Cooper Jr. as the new director for its acclaimed Gospel Choir. Mr. Cooper brings to the position 45 years of experience in musical performance, studio production, song writing, and 11 years as an instructor.
“LSTC is extremely honored and proud to have Mr. Cooper lead and continue the legacy of the Gospel Choir of the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago,” said President James Kenneth Echols.
This year, the choir invites singers from the Chicago area to join its ministry of praise and worship. No auditions are required. Rehearsals are on Monday evenings, from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. beginning on September 14 at LSTC, 1100 E. 55th Street, Chicago, Illinois (the corner of 55th and University in Chicago’s historic Hyde Park community). Rehearsal time will be adjusted as necessary to accommodate community singers. To join or for more information, please contact Patricia Bartley at 773-256-0717 or email@example.com.
The Gospel Choir at LSTC was established as a multi-cultural/multi-ethnic/multi-denominational community choir that exemplifies the vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. of peoples of every color bonded together in the unity of God's love. Over the years, choir members have included staff and students from every degree program of the seminary, as well as staff and students from other Hyde Park seminaries and singers from the greater Chicagoland area. The choir has sung for churches of all denominations in the Chicago region, Indiana, Missouri and Wisconsin. It has participated in services for the Hyde Park Interfaith Community, synods, city festivals including the City of Chicago Gospel Music Fest (summer 2003) where it opened the concert on the Main Stage in Grant Park. The choir also completed three singing tours on the continent of Africa.
Dr. Keith Hampton recently completed his service as director of the Gospel Choir. His extensive knowledge and repertoire helped shape the choir for over the last 10 years.
