LSTC Gospel Choir hosts 21st annual benefit concert, "It's Your Season"

Posted Mar 18, 2009

The Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago Gospel Choir, directed by Dr. Keith Hampton, will host six choirs and trumpeter Frank Lovejoy III in an April 19 concert. Proceeds from "It's Your Season," the choir's 21st annual benefit concert, will go to the Grover Wright and the Rev. Carole A. Burns Scholarship Funds. The free concert begins at 4:00 p.m. in the Augustana Chapel at LSTC, 1100 East 55th Street in Chicago.  A freewill offering designated for the scholarships will be gathered.

Harper High School Singing Cardinals; the A Capella Choir of Luther High School South; Chicago Community Chorus; Praetorium Community "Signing" Mass Choir; the Youth Praise Team of Cross Lutheran Church, Milwaukee, Wis.; and Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church Choir will perform, along with LSTC's Gospel Choir and Frank Lovejoy III.

"We gather on April 19 to praise the Lord in song," said LSTC Gospel Choir Founder and Manager Patricia Bartley. "We are excited to have so many wonderful musicians participating in this year's concert and know that everyone who comes will be blessed by the music they hear."

The Grover Wright and Carole A. Burns Scholarships are awarded to LSTC students of color or whose first language is other than English. Concert sponsorships and additional donations for the scholarships are welcome at any time. For more information about the concert or scholarship, visit the web at www.lstc.edu/events/gospel_choir/index.html.

The concert is part of LSTC's Chapel Music Series, which includes both sacred and secular music ranging from classical to contemporary compositions. For a full list of series events and dates, see www.lstc.edu/events/misc_events/musicschedule.html.
