AIDS Quilt Section on Display at HIV/AIDS Workshop at LSTC

Posted Feb 1, 2005

One of the 5,638 12-foot by 12-foot sections of the AIDS Quilt will be on display at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago as part of a workshop on HIV/AIDS for religious and medical professionals on Saturday, February 5.

The workshop invites physicians, nurses, pharmacists, clergy, lay religious leaders, chaplains, medical and theology students, and those living with and affected by HIV to consider how, together, they can halt the spread of HIV and make effective treatments available to those living with the disease. It is sponsored by the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, Zygon Center for Religion and Science, University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine, and Midwest AIDS Training and Education Center (MATEC). For more information on the workshop visit www.zygoncenter.org.

From February 4 through March 1, the section of the AIDS quilt will hang in the main entrance of the seminary. The complete quilt includes the names of almost 83,000 people from around the world who have died of AIDS. During February and early March, LSTC community activities will focus on the continuing impact of HIV/AIDS around the world, including a presentation and discussion at noon on March 7 in the President's Dining Room.  Members of the community are invited to make paper quilt squares remembering loved ones who have died of AIDS to help create a temporary quilt which will be on display at LSTC.
