Augustana Chapel Windows

The stained glass windows in Augustana Chapel were designed and fabricated by the Lyn C. Hovey studios in Boston, Massachusetts. One designer developed the windows on the north and another the windows on the south. Both sets are related conceptually and visually.

Baptismal Windows (North Side)

Designed and fabricated by Michel L'Huillier, these four permanent windows reflect the "coolness" of the north but also the north as the source of cool waters, refreshment, and therefore growth. The windows translate the baptismal waters into visula dimensions and stand in such a way so as to indicate movement towards the world (south). Hints of red affirm the presence of the Spirit. Because the windows are free standing, they permit two different perspectives on baptism, thereby signaling the story of Christian vocation.

All Saints Windows (South Side)

These windows are fabricated in four sections, each installed on a custom-designed track to facilitate movement for a wide variety of arrangements. Yet the windows together form a unified presentation. They were designed by Michelle Szwarc and fabricated by Karen Risatto.

Szwarc took inspiration from the "warm south" or the world as the place where the baptismal promise for all saints is fulfilled. The windows represent a kind of filter through which one sees the world, a filter which on the right picks up some of the baptismal streams developed in the north windows and swirls them through the (red) gifts of the Spirit.

The broad circular movement results in a three-dimensional experience and puts each baptized into contact with others, leading people of many colors into a future unknown by filled with promise.
