Growth in Faith Opportunities at LSTC

We are created to live in loving communion with the One who is Love Itself. Fashioned in the image of the blessed Trinity, God calls us into existence to share in divine life, experiencing and expressing the love that transcends human naming. Loving reverence and mutuality in all our relationships—with God, others, creation and oneself— are the focus of Christian spiritual formation.

Christian spiritualities invite us into this loving communion. Wildly diverse in practice, emphasis and historical expression, each living tradition seeks to draw us into an ongoing experience of God’s love that we have the mind of Christ and walk in newness of life.

Christian spiritual formation is this life-long process of life in the Spirit in which we are conformed into an image of Christ for the sake of the world.

The Christian spiritual life is one of joy, faith, hope, love and sacrificial service. It is relational, sacramental and visionary. It involves corporate worship, personal prayer and morality, community life and social responsibility. It nurtures humility, gentleness, simplicity, mutuality and loving reverence. It celebrates the Eucharist as its source and summit.

In 2005 LSTC appointed a Director of Spiritual Formation in its commitment to nurture this life. But spiritual formation is not the province of any single person or an isolated emphasis at LSTC. It is a dimension of the entire seminary experience, which seeks to nurture depth of faith in all LSTC students.

[Note: Pr. Craig Mueller and Deaconess Louise Williams are serving as interim directors of spiritual formation for the 2008-09 academic year].
