Growth in Faith Junior Colloquy

All new M.Div. students are encouraged to sign up for a colloquy group. Colloquy groups help new students reflect upon how they and their faith are changing during their first year of seminary. They also create hospitable space for building relationships and providing mutual support through the fall and spring semesters as students adapt to seminary life and work through the candidacy process. The groups are led/facilitated by a two-person team, comprised of middler and senior students. Junior colloquy group participation grants one GIF credit.

Schedule: Groups typically meet twice a month through the school year, depending upon the needs and schedules of group members. Meeting times are negotiated within each group. In the past, some groups preferred shorter, more frequent gatherings to stay close in touch. Others met for longer times over a shared meal.

Book: Colloquy groups Colloquy groups will read The Sacred Journey, by Frederick Buechner (Harper & Row) during the year to help participants reflect upon their own stories as sacred journeys into the mystery of God.

Junior colloquy group mentors—Middler and senior students can register to become mentor/facilitators for junior colloquy groups by contacting the Director of Spiritual Formation. The mentors will gather with the Director for Spiritual Formation periodically during the school year to inform the director of their group’s needs, discuss problems, share ideas and seek resources to enhance their groups. Grants one GIF credit.
