Worship at LSTC - Augustana Chapel

Life together at LSTC finds its center in our common worship of God in Christ. This is especially true of the Holy Eucharist, which is the ever-flowing source and summit of our life together in Christ.

Worship at LSTC provides the richest spiritual nourishment of God’s Word and sacrament, through which Christ’s life is poured into our mortal flesh, leading us into lives of joy, faith, hope, love and service.

Each week a different group of students, faculty and staff plan and lead worship, which is liturgical, innovative, cross-cultural and always Christ-centered. Services occur at 11 a.m. Monday through Thursday.

Spring Semester - 2008

There are several changes and additions to our regular worship schedule for the spring semester.

Daily services and Eucharist will continue at our normal 11 a.m. time, Monday through Thursday.

Prayer at the close of the day (Compline) will be observed at 9:40 p.m., in the chapel on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday each week of the semester.

There will not be evening prayer Tuesdays at 5 p.m., as during the fall semester. Morning prayer will observed in the prayer circle in the east wing of the chapel, Monday through Friday from 7:30-7:55 a.m., allowing students to get to 8 a.m. classes.

These early morning services were initiated by Fabian Kroll and Peder Hinderlie during the fall term, and the services vary from day to day. Sometimes, the group prays/sings morning prayer from ELW, allowing a few minutes for silent meditation. On other days, most of the service is spent in silent meditation on the texts for the day, or the group may simply sing. Fabian indicates the group is open to new ideas and alternative ways for attending to God each morning before the rush of the day begins.

All are welcome and invited to share with us in the praise of God’s unspeakable grace in Jesus Christ.

Canned offerings

Two large wicker baskets have been placed near the back of the chapel. These are for canned good and dried food stuffs, which you may give instead of a monetary offering. The baskets will be brought forward during the offering at Wednesday Eucharist, and the food will be given to food banks in the Hyde Park area. The Standing Committee on Worship will designate sites for these offerings.
