Tim Weisman, Lutheran Year student, received a 2010 Creative Teaching Ministry Grant.
Creative Teaching Ministry Grant
Gratitude and creativity combined to shape the Creative Teaching Ministry Grant. A 2009 master of divinity graduate and his spouse, who wish to remain anonymous, felt particularly blessed by the support of congregations, scholarships and loans that allowed them to leave LSTC with minimal debt. They write “As we prepared to leave LSTC and venture into where God was leading us, we realized that we could not leave the seminary community without somehow paying-forward blessings (bearing fruit that will last). While we are by no means wealthy, we believe that God blessed us through seminary and has given us the financial ability to bless one person each year.”
The Creative Teaching Ministry Grant requires the applicant to create a new four-week arts-integrated Christian education curriculum for young people. The unit must model contemporary multicultural Christian education and have a budget of $50 or less. Each year the donors present a new “prompt” for the education unit. The 2011 grant asks applicants to focus on the three expressions of the ELCA and their relationship to the greater Church. Download and complete the PDF application here.
The $1,000 grant hopes to encourage ministries that are creative, prayerful and inclusive. The donors also hope to plant the seed with other seminarians to sponsor other grants and scholarships to the students who follow them at LSTC.
