Loans

LSTC participates in the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program. We are committed to partnering with students to build up scholarship and grant funding in order to keep borrowing at a minimum. LSTC does not package student loans with institutional aid, which means that the student first assesses their budget and then requests a student loan. To be eligible for a student loan, one must be a United States citizen, admitted to a degree program, at least half time and compliant with the satisfactory academic progress policy. Graduate students are eligible for Unsubsidized and Graduate Plus loans.

Steps to Acquiring a Student Loan at LSTC
If you are planning to pay a portion of your educational expenses with student loans, you are required to complete each of the following steps:

  1. Review the estimated standard expenses found under helpful resources to assess the amount of loan needed.
  2. Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid): www.fafsa.ed.gov (LSTC School Code: G01712)
  3. Complete a Direct Loan Master Promissory Note: www.studentloans.gov
  4. Complete online Student Loan Counseling at www.studentloans.gov
  5. Complete the Direct Loan Eligibility Form (To complete any of the PDF-fillable forms on the LSTC website, please use only the free Adobe Reader)

    All students are encouraged to first apply for LSTC's need-based grants and secure other sources of financial aid before applying for student loan money.  Once you have completed the form please e-mail to katefitzkappes@lstc.edu or bring hard copy to The Office of Vocation Admission and Financial aid.

**Please note that all communication from the LSTC Financial Aid Office regarding your student loans will go to your LSTC email account unless requested otherwise.*

After completing steps 1 through 4 above you will receive an email confirmation from the LSTC Financial Aid office that your loan has been certified. If there is any question as to your eligibility we will contact you via email. Your loan will be submitted to NSLDS and accessible by authorized agencies, lenders, and institutions.

If you have received an email notification that your loan has been certified, you can expect to receive a second email notification at the time your student loan money has been disbursed into your LSTC account. To receive a check, complete the student check request form found at the finance center on LSTCNet or in the LSTC Finance Office. Submit the form to Carmen Rollins at crollins@lstc.edu
