Pastor Terrence "Terry" Baeder will serve as the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago's Interim Dean of the Community for two years, beginning July 1, 2008. He succeeds the Rev. Linda Johnson Seyenkulo, who has served as LSTC's Dean of the Community since 2003.
In his acceptance letter, Pastor Baeder wrote, "I have had a lifelong passion to support and encourage the development of future leaders of our church. LSTC has also been very close to my heart throughout most of my ministry ‘because of our partnership in the Gospel. . .' I look forward to this new phase of ministry and am excited about the opportunities that we will share together."
Pastor Baeder earned his master of divinity from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Mo., and the master of sacred theology and doctor of ministry, both in pastoral counseling, from Christ Seminary-Seminex. Since 1999, he has served as senior pastor at Zion Lutheran Church in Tinley Park, Ill. Pastor Baeder previously led a two-point parish in Illinois and was both a pastoral counselor and director of pastoral care for Lutheran Social Services of Illinois.
Since 2000, Pastor Baeder has been a member of LSTC's board of directors and currently is its vice chairperson. He is one of LSTC's representatives on the JKM Library board of trustees, has taught classes at LSTC, and supervised Ministry in Context students at Zion Lutheran Church.
"Pastor Baeder has been a wonderful partner in the seminary's ministry," President Echols wrote in his announcement of the appointment. He explained that a two-year interim appointment will allow LSTC to focus on its search for a new Academic Dean next year and review the role and position description for the Dean of the Community. The search for a permanent Dean of the Community will take place during the 2009 - 2010 academic year.
