Our Mission

The Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (LSTC), a seminary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, prepares pastors, theological educators, lay professional leaders, diaconal ministers and other church leaders who are
centered in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and committed to the Christian faith,
knowledgeable interpreters of the Scriptures and the ecumenical traditions of the church, and
responsive to the diversity and changing dynamics of contemporary life, and

who are able to
witness to the reconciling Word of God, both through their lives and through such ministries as teaching, preaching, administering the sacraments, and inviting people to the faith,
provide care for God’s people, and
work for the revitalization of the church as it seeks to transform the world.

In carrying out its mission, LSTC
promotes theological research and publication, and
preserves, explores, and interprets the Lutheran heritage as a confessing movement calling the whole church to renewal.
