John Beck is a pastor in the ELCA, with advanced degrees communication, marital and family therapy, and pastoral counseling. He has served as a parish pastor in a variety of congregational settings for 28 years. He has also served as a hospital chaplain and as an interim pastor. For seven years prior to ordained ministry John served in the Division for Life and Mission of the former American Lutheran Church, primarily working in youth ministry and publications.
Beck has a passion for enhancing the vitality of relationships in congregations. His "Shalom Training" has been valuable to many congregations and he has presented in a wide variety of settings. His research on the kinds of trainings that most enhance congregation al resilience can be explored at resilientchurches.org.
The purpose statement for his Shalom Ministry work is: To plant, water and tend the growth of shalom ministries by training leaders to recognize the sacred relationships we receive from God and to nurture them with courage and good faith as we live out Jesus’ kingdom vision of Matthew 18.
Beck is married to the Rev. Joan L. Beck who serves LSTC as Pastor for the Community and Director of Spiritual formation. They have three children: Erin, Anni, and Jordan.
